Hello, September! (A Recap of Summer)

It’s officially the start of September and I, quite unintentionally, managed to neglect this journal. My original goal was to share an update at least once per week, but I failed. I’d like to say it was because life got the better of me (between summer wedding season and editing photos/films) — but I could’ve made this more of a priority. Months went by and, now, here we are.

I’m hoping to be better at dedicating time to write. For me, it’s like a form of therapy that helps my mind relax. So much of our work requires intense focus and stimulation (ie. video editing). This journal was meant to distance me from my everyday work life.

I’ll begin this recap with a few photos captured by our dear friend, Katie Stoops. She stayed with us for a decent portion of May and we were honored to have her photograph us at this time in our lives. I’ll share a bit more on the session in a future post, when we share more images!

This summer, we decided to join a social club in town (Common House). As business owners residing outside of our typical market (DC/NY/Destination), we honestly don’t get out as much as we would like. We noticed the amount of time we spent in our home office and thought it might be nice to try occasionally working out of a creative space. So far, it’s been fun. We spent our Fourth of July with friends at their rooftop get-together and even attended a Summer Tiki Party. See below.

I also dedicated some time to catching up with family and friends up North, which was incredibly overdue. We find ourselves in Maryland (where I’m from) quite often but consistently find it complicated to schedule time to see friends while traveling for work with our equipment. I took a week in July to play catch up with my cousins in Pennsylvania, along with some Maryland friends.

We even managed to swing attendance at a convention in Richmond called GalaxyCon. It was something fun to look forward to in a sea of busy weeks and fed our inner nerds. It was our very first time attending a non-industry convention together and we had a blast.

As gamers and huge fans of Overwatch, we were over the moon to snag front-row seats at a Q&A with the voices of Lucio, Sombra, and Roadhog. With Lucio also being the main character that I play, we stopped by Jonny Cruz’s booth for a photo and signed art (appropriately featuring Josh’s most-played character, D.Va). We also witnessed a Q&A with Peter Capaldi (The Twelfth Doctor from Doctor Who) and unashamedly paid to have our photo taken with some favorites from Star Trek (Data, Worf, and Q).

Overall, the summer of 2019 was good to us. We managed to squeeze in some personal time for ourselves and I consider that a win.

All photos taken on iPhone X (with the exception of Katie’s images).
